Venice Canal Painting

After a long hiatus from painting I’ve final finished a new piece thanks to some friends need for a piece to bring life to a large blank wall. I’ve had several ideas for paintings lingering in the back of my head for quite some time. These ideas are directly inspired from photos I have taken on some of my travels and a way to recreate those images in a different medium. The photo I decided to use for this piece is a shot I took at dusk while walking the canals of Venice, Italy. What drew me to use this shot is the full range of color in the buildings, the introduction of light from peering from the side ally way while reflecting into the water and the presence of the last bit of blue sky splitting through the middle of the canal. Although the painting took a little longer than intended, I’m pleased with the outcome and think it was worth taking a little extra time.
